Scarcity is a reality for each of us.  Not one earthly resource is infinite.  We even see that with water, the most common substance on the planet’s surface.  Though scarcity can compel us to conserve and be good stewards, it can also compel us to question and doubt, to fear that we may not have enough, and by extension, to fear that we may not be enough.  In today’s gospel, when Jesus tells his disciples to feed the tremendous crowd, they reply that they have only 5 loaves and 2 fish.  Jesus then shows them the miracle of what God can do with “only.”
